Introduction of School of Journalism & Communication

Since China enters into WTO and accesses to international cultural exchanges circle, the traditional information education is facing the competition and challenges arising from western modern media and modern design. In order to meet the new situation, the university absorbs talents and integrates resources to set up the School of Journalism and Communication.


After several years of development, the School of Journalism and Communication has gradually formed its own characteristics, relying on rich tech resources of the university and increasing discipline basis, and by now, over 800 full-time students are present in the school. As far as the personnel training is concerned, the school embodies large-span cross between humanities and social sciences with engineering sciences, especially the science of communication and computers, emphasizing on mutual permeation of arts and sciences, learning and research in combination, the unity of erudition and specialty, to achieve the training goals of “four will-be talents” as “will be a man, will be acting, will be learning and will be innovative” through implementing the simulation, emulation and practice-based training model.


The disciplines construction is gradually maturing. There is one master program, namely Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering master program; three undergraduate programs of Advertising, Radio and Television Journalism as well as Broadcasting and Hosting Arts. There are two centers in the school respectively of Media Experimental Center and Modern Education Technology Center, also two institutes, namely the Institute of Culture and Communication and Spatial Information Engineering Institute.


The School of Journalism and Communication has a strong faculty. Totally 47 teachers include 9 professors and associate professors, 7 PhDs, 31 with master’s degree or master students. There are complete teaching and research laboratory equipment, including a 500–square-meter studio, advertising graphic design labs, radio and television program production laboratory, photography laboratory, recording and broadcasting room, multi-media communication laboratory, training room, and advertising studios, etc..


The school focuses on open education and values external communication and trade links. There are 10 external part-time professors in the school. The school often invites well-known celebrities and industry experts to give lectures, sends teachers to participate in a wide range of academic exchange activities at home and abroad to track the development frontier of disciplines; solicits social celebrities and scholars to establish advisory committee, and has established extensive friendly relations with numerous media and enterprises.
